I am autistic, diagnosed as an adult, and this is what has led me into this route. I want to offer the service I could have benefitted from before and after diagnosis. My aim is to provide a safe space where you can be your true self and feel comfortable exploring the issues that have brought you to counselling. I recognise that neurodivergent individuals can need different ways of accessing counselling, so I offer flexibility over the length and frequency of sessions. There is no limit on the number of sessions. I can offer a reduced rate for those on low incomes.
I have over ten years of experience working with neurodivergent individuals in a variety of roles. Currently I also work as part of the multidisciplinary team in the Spectrum Diagnostic, Assessment and Therapy Centre in Dungannon. I am chair of the Northern Area Autism Reference Group which advises service providers with the aim of improving services for autistic individuals. As part of this group, I have been involved in the development and feature in training videos for GP practices in supporting their autistic patients.
Previously I worked as a Peer Recovery Trainer for The Northern Region Recovery College, in which I coproduced and co-delivered autism training. I was also involved in the setting up of the charity Spectrum Women’s Autism Group (SWAG), a charity run by and for autistic women. I was chair of the trustees of this charity for five years. I have presented at and attended a number of autism conferences. My master’s dissertation examined depression in autistic adults. I have a particular interest in the difference in mental health difficulties in neurodivergent individuals.
